Merit-Based Scholarships

Presidential Scholarship

UB’s top entering freshmen are awarded Presidential Scholarships. This scholarship covers full tuition, fees, housing, board and books for four years of undergraduate study. To be competitive for this award, students must show outstanding academic merit with a minimum unweighted high school average of 95 and a combined SAT critical reading and math score of at least 1470 or an ACT score of 33. Students who receive Presidential Scholarships are automatically admitted to the University Honors College and must maintain good standing within the program to keep their scholarship.

A separate application is required for this scholarship in addition to the general admissions application. An on-campus interview is also required for top Presidential Scholar candidates. Contact the Honors College to request an application. Presidential Scholarship applications must be on file in the Honors College office by early January.

If you would like to be considered for this scholarship, we recommend that you apply to UB by Dec. 1 and submit all of the required supporting documents (test scores, transcripts and letters of recommendation) by Dec. 31, as scholarship awards will be based on academic credentials received by this date.

Provost Scholarship

New freshmen are considered each year for Provost Scholarships, which start at $2,500 and depend on academic achievement and the cost of attendance. To be considered for a Provost Scholarship students must have a minimum high school average of 90 and minimum combined critical reading and math SAT score of 1200 (or minimum ACT score of 27). The typical profile of a Provost Scholarship recipient includes a mean unweighted high school average of 93 and a combined SAT critical reading and math score of 1280. Candidates for Provost Scholarships are considered during the admission review process and may be invited to participate in the University Honors College or the University Scholars Program. There is no additional application needed. To be considered for a merit scholarship, we recommend that you apply by Dec. 1 and submit all of the required supporting documents (test scores, transcripts and letters of recommendation) by Dec. 31. Scholarship awards will be based on academic credentials received by this date. Scholarship notices are mailed, along with admission offers, beginning in mid-February.

Daniel Acker Scholarship

Acker Scholarships are renewable for up to four years and are awarded to students who will participate in the Daniel Acker Scholars Program. Consideration is given to students with financial need, first-generation college students, and students who have demonstrated their ability to contribute to the cultural diversity of UB. Students should have a combined math and critical reading SAT score of 1200 or higher (or a minimum ACT score of 27) and an unweighted high school average of 90 or higher. If you would like to be considered for this scholarship, we recommend that you apply by Dec. 1 and submit all of the required supporting documents (test scores, transcripts and letters of recommendation) by Dec. 31, as scholarship awards will be based on academic credentials received by this date. Prospective Acker Scholars are also encouraged to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by Feb. 1. Scholarship notices are mailed, along with admission offers, beginning in mid-February.
