Program Overview

The Discovery Seminar Program provides first and second-year students with the opportunity to engage with distinguished and distinctive faculty members around thought-provoking and challenging topics in a small-class environment. Students who participate in one of these one-credit courses will have the opportunity to explore a unique topic in a comfortable setting, while engaging with an outstanding faculty member who is passionate about the material as well as teaching undergraduates. Students also discover new ideas and enhance their abilities to think critically and communicate effectively with peers and faculty through the Discovery Seminars Program.

UB's Discovery Seminar Program offers a small class experience on a wide variety of academic topics to UB's undergraduates, allowing them to engage with distinguished faculty members over fresh and exciting material in a congenial, academic setting. Seminars focus on current disciplinary or interdisciplinary topics in the faculty members' fields. The Discovery Seminar program aims to introduce students to UB's exciting intellectual atmosphere, creating an arena where they can work comfortable with faculty and broaden their academic horizons. The seminars are intended primarily for freshman and sophomores, but juniors and seniors are welcome to enroll. A maximum of 6 Discovery Seminar credit hours can apply toward graduation.
